Y12 Libby Shea - Environmental Conservation
Over the course of our Environmental Conservation CAS Project, our team successfully fulfilled several key learning outcomes. We demonstrated our ability to initiate and plan by discussing the impact we hoped to achieve and researching meaningful activities within our local Hong Kong community. Through partnerships with organisations like Food Angel, we organised seven activities that contributed to environmental conservation. Throughout the project, I developed new skills through overcoming various challenges. For instance, identifying organisations that aligned with our ethical values required careful consideration, while unpredictable situations, such as when leftover bread availability varied between bakeries in Bread Run, required quick logistical adaptation. As a team, we communicated effectively, negotiated alternative strategies, and remained flexible in our approach, which made me realise the importance of adaptability when plans do not go as expected. This experience also highlighted my commitment and perseverance. Despite the physical demands of long hours of travelling, and the emotional challenges of trying to create a meaningful impact, we remained dedicated to our goals. I learned the value of collaborative working in not only improving our overall performance but also strengthened our ability to support one another, especially during community service activities. Ultimately, this project was a valuable experience that deepened my understanding of environmental sustainability and its global significance. It also made me feel more hopeful about our environmental future, as we extended our impact by proposing a Green Campus Motion and sharing our insights during Social Awareness Week, engaging our wider school community in sustainable practices.
